MLC Bike Bus February 9th Lead Schedule

Now I have first hand knowledge of what it takes to make a film!  Filming the footage was a blast and the editing, in collaberation with another bike bus parent, was a fun exercise in knowing when to stop, and start again later.

But me aside, I believe you guys are gonna love what we did with all your acting!  It’s fast and fun and flows really well.

Bike bus families look for an evite giving you some date options for our viewing party.  We’ll bring in pizza. The venue will have soda for the kids and wine or beer for the adults (for purchase).  Perhaps our iMovie expert can give the kids who want a 15-20 minute lesson in “Editing Magic” during the festivities.  Be extra nice to him this week!  🙂

The lead schedule is as follows:

  • Mon- A.M. Lisa, P.M. Angela
  • Tues – A.M. Tracy, P.M. Lisa 3:15, Tracy 4:15
  • Wed – A.M. Scott, P.M. Angela
  • Thurs – A.M. Dallas, P.M. Tracy
  • Fri – A.M. Scott, P.M. Angela

See you on the bus!

MLC Bike Bus Febrauary 2nd Lead Schedule

This was an eventful week for bike bus families!

We began filming for what at first was going to be a 4 minute film to submit for a contest.  After a couple of taping sessions, I realized that even if the end result is a not-so-good film (I’ve never made one before), the kids had fun with the process of making it.  The footage is at times boooring, but most of it is hilarious and I can’t wait to make it into something fun for the kids.

Thanks for all the parent cooperation!  VIP viewing party coming soon!!!

The lead schedule is as follows:

  • Mon- A.M. Tracy, P.M. Angela
  • Tues – A.M. Scott, P.M. Tracy 4:15
  • Wed – A.M. Scott, P.M. Angela
  • Thurs – A.M. Lisa, P.M. Dallas (more filming!! to take place a.m. ride)
  • Fri – A.M. Tracy, P.M. Tracy

See you on the bus!

MLC Bike Bus January 26th Lead Schedule

It was good to get back out on the bike this past week.

Our outing to REI for a bike maintenance workshop was fun! The kids practiced replacing flat tires, learning some of the quick tricks. They also learned how to grease the chains. After some good riding this past fall and 1/2 the winter wet and dirty road riding, most of the bikes desparately needed it!

Stay tuned for upcoming excursions.

The lead schedule is as follows:

  • Mon- A.M. Tracy, P.M. Angela
  • Tues – A.M. Scott, P.M. Tracy 4:15
  • Wed – A.M. Lisa, P.M. Angela
  • Thurs – A.M. Angela, P.M. Dallas (filming to take place a.m. ride)
  • Fri – NO SCHOOL (Breakfast on the Bridges though)

See you on the bus!

MLC Bike Bus January 19th Lead Schedule

Wow.  It’s been awhile.  A week off of school just ahead of the holidays totalled 3 weeks of literally not getting out of my pjs until noon!

I hope everyone had a grand winter break.  We had fun pretending our house was a ski lodge.  We skiid to the grocery, the mall, all our errands were done by skiis.  It was really awesome, simply because we knew it wouldn’t last.  Check out the photos from our family and another bike bus fam during “forced alternative transportation week.”

Now that we’re all getting back on track, it’s the perfect time to give our bikes a once over.  REI has come through with their promise to host a bike maintenance workshop for the bike bus folk this Friday at noon.   They’ve lined up a couple of great techs to help the kids out learning how to change a flat, tighten up brake lines & greasing the chain.  Adults can jump in on this too!  Please RSVP directly to me as soon as you can.  I will report to REI with our total number by Monday.

The lead schedule is as follows:

  • Mon- A.M. Tracy, P.M. Angela
  • Tues – A.M. Lisa, P.M. Tracy 4:15
  • Wed – A.M. Scott, P.M. Angela
  • Thurs – A.M. Scott , P.M. Tracy
  • Fri – A.M. Angela, P.M. Tracy

See you on the bus!

MLC Bike Bus December 8th Lead Schedule

Yesterday’s cyclocross races were fun.  It was a first for most of the bike bus folk and we had a gorgeous sunny bike ride there and back, with a leg on the max.  Looking out the window today (Sunday) I know, that while our sunny day at the races was great for the toddlers to run around, we are missing the more exciting races today: muddier, wetter, more chance of riders falling etc..  I was almost motivated to take my bike out onto the racetrack and just try a circuit!  See some of the photos from the event.

The lead schedule is as follows:

  • Mon- A.M. Tracy, P.M. Angela
  • Tues – A.M. Angela, P.M. Tracy 4:15
  • Wed – A.M. Scott, P.M. Tracy
  • Thurs – A.M. Scott, P.M. Dallas
  • Fri – A.M. Angela, P.M. Tracy

See you on the bus!

MLC Bike Bus December 1st Lead Schedule

Too much turkey dressing has slowed me down!  Sorry for the delayed blogpost you all!  The lead schedule is a loose interpretation of what might be so in the coming week…

Cyclocross at PIR on Saturday!!! If you haven’t RSVP’d to join the bike bus families for this fun national race event please do so directly to me at: rosestonelit@yahoo.com so I can include you in our details of the days proceedings.  Be prepared for the weather!

Thanks go to Dallas for setting up a locker for all the kids’ rain gear and extra bike stuff.

PLEASE PLEASE impress upon the kids the rules that have been set out for the use of the locker.  We stand to lose it’s use if the combination is compromised, things stolen, etc etc..

Thanks to Frank, our principal for allowing us the opportunity to utilize the locker.  We know they are in short supply around the school.

The lead schedule is as follows:

  • Mon- A.M. Tracy, P.M. Angela
  • Tues – A.M. Scott, P.M. Tracy (3:15), P.M. Angela (4:15)

MLC Bike Bus November 17th Lead Schedule

Greetings!

So last week you all got pretty wet. One of our bike bus parents has made some suggestions for the kids to make sure they are not sitting in cold/wet clothes during the school day. I’ve posted his comments on the routemap comments. Please respond there with thoughts to improve the wet weather ride.

While you haven’t seen me out there these past couple of weeks, I have been working on the REI project. The meeting went well and I expect an outline of events from them in the next couple of weeks beginning in January. Here are the things we agreed on:

  • Fridays after school, once a month. ( I lobbied for a bike maintenance afternoon first)
  • Rock climbing
  • Luncheon
  • ?? (Other ideas)

Also, a punch card idea which would allow the kids to get a “free” something after so many rides to and from school. I suggested fenders, lights, bells…

And, the jackets! This is an involved process that requires me to work with a non-profit. REI can’t donate to individuals. So, of course, I’m targeting the BTA to house the donations and distribute jackets. The most likely timeline for this is, unfortunately fall of 2009.

We also talked about getting more of the neighborhood schools involved, ie Emerson, Chapman, others(?), establishing the safest routes to/fro. I’m looking for a contact for Chapman. I’m also looking for a parent, teacher, school official for MLC to be the SE coordinator. If you have any ideas please, please pass them on!!

This week’s lead schedule as follows (Gentlemen, please remember your legs are longer and steeds swifter than the kids’!):

  • Mon- A.M. Lisa, P.M. Lisa
  • Tues – A.M. Scott, P.M. Tracy (3:15), P.M. Angela (4:15)
  • Wed – A.M. Angela, P.M. Tracy
  • Thurs – A.M.Scott, P.M. Dallas
  • Fri – A.M. John, P.M. John

See you on the bus

MLC Bike Bus November 10th Lead Schedule

This past week our family was able to view the pre-release of a movie documentary called “Veer.”  A movie that covers 7 local figures in the biking community, it ties most everyone from the zoobombers and sprockettes to bikers killed on the road and the family they leave behind. The work of the BTA in legislature is also covered, talking about the challenges from the social need to legal protection.  It wraps up with the success of personal stories, to getting the vulnerable roadway user bill, and 4 others, passed last session.  It tries to tie together the different cultures of cycling in Portland with some interesting effects.

As you know from my talking to you regulars about field trips to events, it would be fun to expose the kids to the different cultures of bicycling that we have here in Portland.   Right now they are “urban commuter cyclists.”  There is an opportunity here to let them see what exactly they are in the big picture as well.  To that effect, please RSVP to me directly for the Saturday, December 6th Cyclocross event at Portland Meadows! We’ll talk about the details.
I’m also asking for input before Wednesday’s meeting with REI outreach.  Our meeting is for 2009 sponsorship of the bike bus.  What opportunities do you see?

Great 4 day weekend!  This week’s lead schedule as follows:

  • Mon- NO SCHOOL
  • Tues – NO SCHOOL
  • Wed – A.M. Scott, P.M. Tracy
  • Thurs – A.M. Tracy, P.M. Angela
  • Fri – A.M. Scott, P.M. Lisa

See you on the bus!

MLC Bike Bus November 3rd Lead Schedule

Even with the rain, we have the best climate, in my own “can’t ride when it’s over 80 degrees” opinion, for biking.

Don’t let the kids nag you out of getting on the bike in the rainy, cold, dark morning.  Sometimes we spice it up a bit before take off with a cup of cocoa.

Here are some tips via Jonathon Maus @ bikeportland.org on rainy weather riding.  Thanks Jonathon!

I’ll keep you informed about my dealings with REI and the next field trip.

This week’s lead schedule as follows:

  • Mon- A.M. Lisa, P.M. Lisa
  • Tues – A.M. Scott, P.M. Tracy (3:15), P.M. Angela (4:15)
  • Wed – A.M. Scott, P.M. Tracy
  • Thurs – A.M. Tracy, P.M. Lisa
  • Fri – A.M. Angela, P.M. Angela

See you on the bus!
